The Importance of Mamograms

My mom waited about five years after the reccommened time to have yearly mamogram. My mom went for her mamogram and the doctor found a lump in her breast. She then had a doctor's appointment to have an ultra sound. The doctor said it could potentially be cancer but they don't know at this time so they told her they were going to keep an eye on it and to come back in six months. Six months later she went back and had another ultrasound. They told her it was smaller but the same thing agin that they wanted to keep an eye on it and to come back in six months. If they think it is potentially cancer isn't there something more they could do instead of making her worry and come back every six months? I know that these sort of things cost money and everything but you can't put a price on my mother's life.

  1. I am not sure if there is anything more that they can do. My mother has regular mamograms. I was living in NC in 2006 when she called me and said she had breast cancer. She had surgery, went through some radiation treatments, and takes chemotherapy pills. Luckily she is ok and no signs of reoccurance but she goes every couple months to be checked. I hope everything is ok with your mom. It's very scary and very real to go through something like breast cancer.
